The Spirit of sugar cane:
Rum is a distillate made from the extracts of sugar cane. It comes in
an enormous variety of characters and types. Further blending can create
endless variations within the product. There is no uniform measure to
classify the different Rum-types, the only thing they have in common is
their basis, the sugar cane. Scheer handles the full range and has developed
great expertise in blending the various types according to customer needs.
Rum is produced, in cane-growing climates, in many islands / countries
/ regions throughout the world. Each region has its own style and tradition.
Fermentation methods vary widely from industrially controlled to naturally
wild. Rum is produced in a wide range of stills, from very artisan pot-stills
to state of the art column stills.
Rum is used as a base product in many industries, and each application
has its own specific needs. Apart from the obvious use in alcoholic beverages
Rum is also used in tobacco, chocolate, culinary purposes and aroma manufacturing.
